Breadcrumbs

A longing for belonging

There’s nothing dishonourable about being lost
Loss is essential to every great story
The thwarted escape, the love that’s star-crossed
The foundational allegory
We live with the illusion of careful control
It helps us feel part of the art
Yet we often wonder when we hear the bell toll
Of which whole have just been a part
We feel, we react, we empathize
As if we longed to return
To a frequency we somehow could recognize
A connection we wish to relearn
Memory is a faculty that often forgets
which ties it should hold or unbind
So to pre-empt this hunger and forego regrets
Best to leave some breadcrumbs behind
